Motion Graphics for Music
This project was developed as part of Sound & Visions, an audiovisual collaboration between students from the Royal College of Music (KMH) and Beckmans College of Design. The task was to create a motion graphics piece for approximately 60 seconds of original music, working closely with an assigned musician as an external collaborator.
The visual concept was shaped through dialogue with the musician and close listening to the composition, translating rhythm, structure, and atmosphere into a coherent moving image language. A methodical process involving storyboards, moodboards, and treatments supported the transition from concept to execution.
The animation was produced using Blender, incorporating digital 3D workflows such as modeling, lighting, texturing, and rendering to construct a spatial and time-based visual response to the music. Motion, pacing, and visual transitions were developed in direct relation to the composition’s dynamics.
The final video was exported in both horizontal (16:9) and vertical (9:16) formats, adapting the visual system to different viewing contexts while maintaining conceptual and visual consistency. The project demonstrates an approach to motion graphics that balances collaboration, technical execution, and audiovisual storytelling.
